Proud to be a scrapbooker :: Giveaway

proud to scrapbook giveaway
online scrapbooking weekend
Welcome to three days of scrapbooking fun here at shimelle.com. I’m so glad you can join in! Throughout today, Saturday and Sunday, you’ll find regular posts here with challenges, giveaways, mini-lessons, special guests, free downloads and all sorts of things to keep you scrapbooking.

Two very important things to know from the beginning:
…you never have to do something just as it’s shown. Please use your own stash, embrace your own style and feel free to make any changes you like. Just because I love layers and butterflies and kraft cardstock doesn’t mean you have to. And you definitely have my permission to use all the older papers and stickers in your collection that need to find a home on some layouts rather than continue to age in your stash, so don’t feel any pressure to use the latest and greatest if you want to focus on using your older supplies.
…the vast majority of the challenges have a full week until the deadline, so you can enjoy scrapping rather than racing from one project to the next. Work at the pace that you enjoy and complete the challenges that speak to you!

And one other thing: on top of all the specific giveaways and challenge prizes this weekend, one person will win a $100 gift certificate to Two Peas in a Bucket. It can be spent on anything in the Two Peas store, and that’s a lot of stuff, plus there are new CHA releases arriving there daily right now, so it’s an extra good time to have a shopping spree! The $100 gift certificate will be awarded on Monday (15th August) to someone who really gets involved and shares the spirit of scrapbooking throughout the three days. It’s not a layout contest, there’s not anything in particular you need to do. In the past, every crop has had its own personal cheerleader in the form of someone who shared their love of scrapbooking and had fun with each challenge, and I think it would be pretty cool to share a little bit of scrappy happiness with someone like that this weekend. So that’s the deal on the $100 prize!

And now… a giveaway to get things started! I have a prize pack here with all sorts of things in it – papers, stamps, a minibook, stickers, brads – and it will go to one person who comments on this post. To enter, leave a comment on this post saying why you are proud to be a scrapbooker. Your name can go in the hat an extra time if you share the link via Facebook or Twitter, so if you do that please say so in your comment or leave a second comment if you prefer. Entries close midnight Sunday (14th August 2011), UK time. The winner will be posted on Monday.

By the way, if you are proud to be a scrapbooker and want to share that in your blog sidebar or message board signature, do feel free to grab this. It has been popping up in signatures over at Two Peas and I love it so. I’m definitely on a quest to make it something we’re never shy to say! (It only took me a gazillion years to figure this out!)

Once you’ve entered the giveaway, there’s a sketch if you want to get started right now, or come back throughout the day for more challenges and fun!

I adore scrapbooking for so many reasons. It is my artistic hobby which just nutures my soul. Beyond saving the story for the future, scrapbooking helps me remember my own history – my boys learned to jump off the diving platforms at the pool and I remember doing the same as a kid and jumping from trees into a lake in Guatemala and I remember a small snapshot of my dad cliff jumping… Scrapbooking is just so good for the mind.

  114. chel Says:

I’m proud because I’m preserving all the amazing stories of my daughter’s life (and our life as a family AND as individuals). It’s lovely to sit and realize how amazing things can be, and paper and photos and glue and embellishments have that power.

Proud to be a Scrapbooker? Certainly I am! Why? Hmmm… needs a bit of thinking about… Beeeecauuuuuse…hmmm… Because it is a wonderful way to keep records of important events in my life, also the more mundane, by creating something that looks lovely and which gives pleasure to both myself and those who see it. Because I can make use of my skills, talents and imagination, to make things that I feel proud of creating. Because I can use up all that Paper and other stuff that clutters my studio (which has to be a good thing, doesn’t it?).
Because, it makes me Very Happy!

Thrilled to bits to be a scrapbooker!!! It all started when I had a career in civil engineering designing roads, my life started looking a little too black and white and “ parallel lined”!! I was introduced into scrapbooking by my sister-in-law. Eventually my engineering career fell by the wayside, but life in colour took over. I notice more of the little items of beauty now which I was always too busy for before. It’s changed many aspects of my life, the way I look at things and I think my photos and layouts are starting to reflect that. Scrapbooking to me brings out the love behind your photos and I’m so proud to be able to share that with the people who look at my layouts!

I love being able to do more with my photos and share thoughts, feeling, places I’ve been, friends I have, family and more. There’s so much to scrapbooking and I’m so proud to be able to stand amongst the rest of you and proudly say “Yes, I’m a scrapbooker too”. Just wish I could get the rest of my family into it, but I’ll keep trying.

I’m proud to be a scrapbooker because I’m making something beautiful to preserve all the little every day memories, that my family will easily forget. Having lost my Mom when I was 24, those little things are super important to me… And my kids LOVE looking at their pages right now and spotting all the little details…

  179. Julia Says:

Reasons why I scrapbook? Where do I begin? To make a family heirloom, to make fabulous albums for my kids to capture their growing up, to record the family history research I do, to make unique gifts for wedding anniversaries and special brithdays, to meet friendly, inspiring people, to give me an excuse to play with paper and glue (and sparkly bits!) once again… but mostly I think because it’s an excuse for some well earned “me time” to destress from daily life! Have shared the link on FB :) Looking forward to a great weekend.

But it goes beyond that…when you can get some one who isn’t a scrapbooker interested in what we do, then you ‘re getting somewhere. I gave a fellow co worker and his wife a gift of a small scrapbook for the birth of their first child…6 years later his wife shared with me it was the most thoughtful, special gift she had ever received in her life. That was my proudest moment as a scrapbooker. That same co worker now gives me cardboard, cds and other little things I can use to scrapbook. They may not scrapbook, but now they “get it” too!!!

It’s the feeling that it imparts, it’s a mini masterpiece to me and to my family and more than that it is a way to share my version of our lives without any pressure. It’s my own way to tell our stories an what a beautiful thing that is!!!

As I scrap photos of my children and grandchildren, I love remembering the fun, a milestone, a happy, and sometimes sad moment. I am proud to be doing something new and fun in my life and learning from it. I am very proud of the techniques I have learned and the resulting works of art that a finished lo becomes. There is a sense of accomplishment in organizing and scrapping decades of photos. I am proud to be the one to tell our family’s stories because everyones’s story is important and should not be forgotten. On a smaller note I can be proud to say that I am definitely contributing to our economy by supporting local scrapbook and craft stores. 309. Kim (toomuchstuff) Says:

I’m proud to be a scrapbooker for several reasons. First, I’m capturing my family’s stories for them to enjoy today and in the future. I know that having a visual connected to the memory will make the memory more solid. Second, I’m spending time for myself (gasp!) when I scrapbook. I enjoy the visual and tactile experience of working with pictures, pretty papers and embellishments (and paint). It recharges my batteries and gives me renewed energy. Participating in both the in-person and online scrapbooking communities with like-minded women nurtures my creative spirit and educates me. Finally, I’m proud to be a scrapbooker because it says I care – about my family, myself, our friends, our past, our present and our future. It’s a paper and picture group hug, and there’s just not much better than a group hug. :-)

But why am I proud of it? I’m not sure really. Maybe I am proud to enjoy something guilt free – it has no calories, doesn’t hurt anyone, it is so much more worthwhile than many other pursuits. I’m proud to tell my stories with a little prettiness.
