I would decorate with little bits of the local area to inspire the person to go out and explore. Love the giveaway

  2. abbey Says:

The local area (Oklahoma) does have some hidden, overlooked treasures so I think a few hints of that, but mostly just keeping it cozy and comfortable.

  3. jacki l Says:

i live in leicester, so i would have to leave a few pork pies out for my guests.

  4. MissSmith Says:

Oooh, this is such a lovely giveaway. And I’m quite enjoying mentally planning out a perfect London flat.

It would have to be a little bit of London – maybe a big tube map on the wall, and a city map with pins stuck into all my favourite places. The furniture would be colourful and mismatched and there would be loads of books. I would lay a table with lots of different tea pots with an adorable array of tea cosies. There would be English wildflowers in vases to make the place cheerful and homely and I would pile cushions around so that people could come back to a comforting little den after an energetic day hopping around the metropolis. Not to mention a lovely patchwork bedspread.

The finishing touch would be a camera people could take out with them and a wall of polaroids that previous guests had taken with a little post-it note stuck in a gap that says “Tell your story and stick your Polaroid here”

Then one day I could scrap them all.

I clearly need to stop here – any more imagining castles in the air and I will start to wish I lived there.

  5. Clair Says:

Um. I think The Beatles might be slightly overdone, so maybe I’d decorate with a little bit of the local lexicon?

  6. Carrie Says:

Our guest room is decorated in a pop art theme, just because I like it and I had the decor items already :) NC is the home of southern cooking so we normally treat our guests to some fried chicken, barbeque, or take them out for some Calabash seafood.. yum!

  7. Shirley K Says:

That’s a really interesting concept – I’ll have to check that out next time I’m traveling. Our guest room is decorated with pretty neutral pieces and colors. It’s easier to match the rest of our house that way. Heh.

  8. anneberit Says:

Great giveaway! I think I would make sure they would knew how to move around the area, maybe leave a few maps on the table (already circled with great places to visit) :)

  9. Philippa Says:

Great question, and very relevant as I’ve got family coming in from out of town next weekend. I would have a beautifully elegant feel to the room. A dark oak sleigh bed, with matching bedside tables and dressers, with fresh lillies giving the room, an truly gorgeous scent. Plush crisp white bath towels, and gorgeous plump green velvet cushions, and throws on the bed. And a bedroom wouldn’t be complete without a deep pile fur rug to sink your feet into when getting up from your lie in!

  10. Lisa M. Zepponi Says:

Well, since I live in Mississippi, it would have to be “Simply Southern”. Cotton is (or was) king here! Cotton sheets, White cotton duvet cover, with bright pops of floral color in throw pillows and accents all set on a King size 4 poster oak bed. Fireplace in the room (although it is entirely too hot to light it up) A cozy couch w/ accented colors to curl up on and read a book while enjoying a glass of wine. Magnolia blossoms and magnolia scented candles set in MS mud pottery, inviting you to stay a while. A big plush cotton robe to wrap around you after took a refreshing soak in the claw footed tub. Hard wood floors spanning both bed and bathroom. Original local art work of cotton fields, magnolias, floral, family hanging on the walls. (Ok can you tell I am ready for a get away myself!)thanks for the mini mind getaway!

  11. Kitty Scrapper Says:

I would make it red polka dot with hints of blue. Lots of cushions and a supply of earl grey tea and second hand books.

    Thanks for the oppurtunity

    x

  27. Jaycee Says:

Like most people I’d want any out of town visitor to know about the fantastic area I live in. We had the last battle in the Civil War less thsn a mile from where I live and Lady De Tremouille is a heroine of mine, she kept the Roundheads at bay (whilst her husband was away!!) for nearly 4 months. We have a great mining history here and also a the lovely Ashurst Beacon on the doorstep. All these and more would influence my style, which would be a soft furnished with a harder undercurrent, just like Lady De Tremouuille. Thanks

I’m from Brixham in Devon, a nice old fishing town, so i’d have to decorate it with big plastic fish all tangled up in a net hung around the ceiling! The little touches are the most important – I always have dressing gowns for my guests to make them feel pampered.

  56. sarah ann wallis Says:

I would make sure that my home was light bright and fresh and above all comfortable, lots of beautiful flowers, comfy chairs to relax in,scatter cushions, scented candles and a warm welcome.

  57. Paul MARSHALL Says:

Nursery rhyme cartoon characters – comforting and down to earth!!!

  58. Tine Says:

I think it should fit to the area somehow. Like culture stuff but for me, it shouldn’t get toooo much. Just a lil note that the visitor noticed “i see this is a hotel in an african country not asian one” but like i said not toooo much. Hope it helps :-)

  59. ellen Says:

Brand new white bed linen and towels, quality bathroom products, coconut room spray.

  60. Kelly Martin Says:

I would decorate it in a very twee and shabby chic way. I live in the Cotswolds and floral tablecloths, old fashioned banners and wooly teapot covers would make it very quintessentially English. A bit of Kath Kidston on the bed (Kath is from Stroud near where I live) and some lovely local lavender cotswold soap in the bathroom. And of course some local Cotswold reading by the bedside. That should do the trick to make them feel part of the area.

  61. Ruth Grover Says:

  65. anne Says:

any guest brave (or foolish) enough to stay at Walgrove Manor must stay on the couch. a VERY comfortable couch, mind you, but still, no private space. “special decor” is more REMOVAL of clutter and cleaning!

  66. Christine Bray Says:

I love the farmhouse look, and I’d leave some local parafinalia around too so they get a flavour of the town!
