I would decorate with little bits of the local area to inspire the person to go out and explore. Love the giveaway
22 July 2011, 15:11
The local area (Oklahoma) does have some hidden, overlooked treasures so I think a few hints of that, but mostly just keeping it cozy and comfortable.
22 July 2011, 15:16
i live in leicester, so i would have to leave a few pork pies out for my guests.
22 July 2011, 15:48
Oooh, this is such a lovely giveaway. And I’m quite enjoying mentally planning out a perfect London flat.
It would have to be a little bit of London – maybe a big tube map on the wall, and a city map with pins stuck into all my favourite places. The furniture would be colourful and mismatched and there would be loads of books. I would lay a table with lots of different tea pots with an adorable array of tea cosies. There would be English wildflowers in vases to make the place cheerful and homely and I would pile cushions around so that people could come back to a comforting little den after an energetic day hopping around the metropolis. Not to mention a lovely patchwork bedspread.
The finishing touch would be a camera people could take out with them and a wall of polaroids that previous guests had taken with a little post-it note stuck in a gap that says “Tell your story and stick your Polaroid here”
Then one day I could scrap them all.
I clearly need to stop here – any more imagining castles in the air and I will start to wish I lived there.
22 July 2011, 15:53
Um. I think The Beatles might be slightly overdone, so maybe I’d decorate with a little bit of the local lexicon?
22 July 2011, 16:07
Our guest room is decorated in a pop art theme, just because I like it and I had the decor items already :) NC is the home of southern cooking so we normally treat our guests to some fried chicken, barbeque, or take them out for some Calabash seafood.. yum!
22 July 2011, 16:26
That’s a really interesting concept – I’ll have to check that out next time I’m traveling. Our guest room is decorated with pretty neutral pieces and colors. It’s easier to match the rest of our house that way. Heh.
22 July 2011, 17:07
Great giveaway! I think I would make sure they would knew how to move around the area, maybe leave a few maps on the table (already circled with great places to visit) :)
22 July 2011, 18:16
Great question, and very relevant as I’ve got family coming in from out of town next weekend. I would have a beautifully elegant feel to the room. A dark oak sleigh bed, with matching bedside tables and dressers, with fresh lillies giving the room, an truly gorgeous scent. Plush crisp white bath towels, and gorgeous plump green velvet cushions, and throws on the bed. And a bedroom wouldn’t be complete without a deep pile fur rug to sink your feet into when getting up from your lie in!
22 July 2011, 18:34
Well, since I live in Mississippi, it would have to be “Simply Southern”. Cotton is (or was) king here! Cotton sheets, White cotton duvet cover, with bright pops of floral color in throw pillows and accents all set on a King size 4 poster oak bed. Fireplace in the room (although it is entirely too hot to light it up) A cozy couch w/ accented colors to curl up on and read a book while enjoying a glass of wine. Magnolia blossoms and magnolia scented candles set in MS mud pottery, inviting you to stay a while. A big plush cotton robe to wrap around you after took a refreshing soak in the claw footed tub. Hard wood floors spanning both bed and bathroom. Original local art work of cotton fields, magnolias, floral, family hanging on the walls. (Ok can you tell I am ready for a get away myself!)thanks for the mini mind getaway!
23 July 2011, 04:31
I would make it red polka dot with hints of blue. Lots of cushions and a supply of earl grey tea and second hand books.
Thanks for the oppurtunity
x
23 July 2011, 04:34
What a wonderful giveaway!I’d decorate my wall with a pin map so people can keep track of where they’ve been. I’d have an automatic foot spa in the middle of some floor cushions and books on the shelves. Big thick mattress and cotton sheets and plump pillows.
23 July 2011, 04:48
I’d display some of the postcards I’ve received from all over the world as part of Postcrossing, and then make sure the kitchen was well stocked!
23 July 2011, 05:02
First of all I would have to put away all those books lying around everywhere. Then I would decorate everything in natural colours with blotches of bright green. Not too much stuff, just enough to feel comfortable. I canĀ“t tell you how much I would like to win this give-away. This would be the perfect excuse why I would HAVE to visit London.
23 July 2011, 05:37
I would keep it plain and simple so my visitor could add their own touches to feel “at home.”
23 July 2011, 05:56

I would have have nice big comfy furniture in
warm colours, plenty of food and wine so the guests never go hungry.

23 July 2011, 06:17
I would use local items – postcards, restaurant menus, leaflets and locally made items (candles etc.) to create a little snippet of the area they are visiting.

Lots of books ,soft lights and bright colours to make them at home !
23 July 2011, 06:45
Wowee! What a lovely prize :)

23 July 2011, 06:49
keep it simple but comfortable with a few books & info so they could get the best out of their stay.
23 July 2011, 07:00
Fresh, good quality bedding. Fresh flowers. Pillow/linen mist sprayed in the room and plenty of pillows to rest their weary heads. A simple kit put together of toiletries is good, incase they forget anything.
23 July 2011, 07:06
I think where you’re from is important so I’d decorate it in cream , beige and accesorise with torquise. But I’d add historical facts about Derbyshire in picture frames, including maps and useful snippets
23 July 2011, 07:30
Like most people I’d want any out of town visitor to know about the fantastic area I live in. We had the last battle in the Civil War less thsn a mile from where I live and Lady De Tremouille is a heroine of mine, she kept the Roundheads at bay (whilst her husband was away!!) for nearly 4 months. We have a great mining history here and also a the lovely Ashurst Beacon on the doorstep. All these and more would influence my style, which would be a soft furnished with a harder undercurrent, just like Lady De Tremouuille. Thanks
23 July 2011, 07:35
I would put a little basket full of some fun maps and little gifts that are so “Savannah” …Southern things that someone from out of town wouldn’t know about! Some things like Sav’h Pralines, Sav’h Honey, & nourish soap.
23 July 2011, 07:59
I would just make sure that it was nice and comfortable. Maybe with a painting of somewhere nice local.
23 July 2011, 08:15

23 July 2011, 08:52
Flowers & scented candles
23 July 2011, 09:20
I live near the New Forest, so there’s loads of beautiful nature and natural produce around. I’d decorate the room with pictures of the greenery, add locally made fudge and put a little fluffy New Forest pony toy on the bed. :)
23 July 2011, 09:24
Roomorama rocks!!!!
23 July 2011, 09:29

23 July 2011, 12:10
I would keep it calm and neutal with hints of aubergine. I would place some pictures of there home country to make them feel at home xx
23 July 2011, 12:51
I’m from Brixham in Devon, a nice old fishing town, so i’d have to decorate it with big plastic fish all tangled up in a net hung around the ceiling! Maybe the bed could be a nice wooden dingy with a fishing rod to hang clothes on, and maybe a cd playing sounds of the sea to gently send my visitor to sleep!!
23 July 2011, 13:37
I live in beautiful Bournemouth so I’d decorate my home in seaside colours of blue and yellow with pictures of colourful beach huts on the wall

23 July 2011, 16:48
I love Rennie Mackintosh style its feminine without being too girly for men to feel uncomfy. Contemporary and i think most people could easily tolerate even if they dont love it like me
23 July 2011, 16:55
I would decorate with calm and homely colours like pastel blue shades etc and include all the homely touches and unique things found in the country and our local area being lancashire and natural wooden localy sourced furniture and art.
23 July 2011, 17:23
I really love the French, shabby chic look. A beautiful reproduction bed, white linen, white dressing table and cupboards, and lots of tin tea light holders and candles. In other words I’d create a room I’d be happy to sleep in night after night. Thanks for the giveaway!
23 July 2011, 17:37
I’d make sure there were things which are practical but nice – matching towels, little soaps, a selection of books, plenty of hangers and an extra pillow!
23 July 2011, 17:39
New bed linen and if I had time a fresh coat of paint
23 July 2011, 17:46
Clean and tidy well. Splash out on some fresh flowers, bowl of fruits and such like.
23 July 2011, 17:48
The little touches are the most important – I always have dressing gowns for my guests to make them feel pampered.
23 July 2011, 18:25
I would make sure that my home was light bright and fresh and above all comfortable, lots of beautiful flowers, comfy chairs to relax in,scatter cushions, scented candles and a warm welcome.
23 July 2011, 18:45
Nursery rhyme cartoon characters – comforting and down to earth!!!
23 July 2011, 19:57
I think it should fit to the area somehow. Like culture stuff but for me, it shouldn’t get toooo much. Just a lil note that the visitor noticed “i see this is a hotel in an african country not asian one” but like i said not toooo much. Hope it helps :-)
23 July 2011, 23:37
Brand new white bed linen and towels, quality bathroom products, coconut room spray.
24 July 2011, 05:37
I would decorate it in a very twee and shabby chic way. I live in the Cotswolds and floral tablecloths, old fashioned banners and wooly teapot covers would make it very quintessentially English. A bit of Kath Kidston on the bed (Kath is from Stroud near where I live) and some lovely local lavender cotswold soap in the bathroom. And of course some local Cotswold reading by the bedside. That should do the trick to make them feel part of the area.
24 July 2011, 05:56
I like simple. A nice, homemade Patchwork cover, matching cushions and co ordinating towels. Also, wi-fi and a radio…even visitors like some ‘on their own time’…
24 July 2011, 07:38
What a cool giveaway Shimelle:) I would decorate with some vintage stuff (saw some gorgeous furniture and house accessories in Camden in London recently but couldn’t fit them in my suitcase:() and make sure to have it clean and cosy! xx
24 July 2011, 08:05
What a great giveaway! I would bring some of the lovely Surrey Countryside in with lots of green and beautiful fresh flowers.
24 July 2011, 08:07
Fab giveaway – and what a great idea. If we had visitors I’d focus on the little things. Shaped toilet paper, box of chocolates and lots of flowers. x
24 July 2011, 09:53
any guest brave (or foolish) enough to stay at Walgrove Manor must stay on the couch. a VERY comfortable couch, mind you, but still, no private space. “special decor” is more REMOVAL of clutter and cleaning!
24 July 2011, 10:36
I love the farmhouse look, and I’d leave some local parafinalia around too so they get a flavour of the town!
24 July 2011, 10:37
With a room by the seaside it would have to be nautical themed with a take-home MP3 download of the crashing waves to remind them to come back again.
24 July 2011, 11:00
My visitor’s room would have to be beach themed – it’s 200yds from 3 miles of golden sand:) So I would decorate it in beach hut colours with some lovely framed photos of crashing waves and beautiful sunsets that I have taken and some shells and driftwood as accessories xx
24 July 2011, 11:36
make it cosy and welcoming with details of Exmoor and coastal walks, surfing, beaches and good food pubs and cream tes venues.
24 July 2011, 12:46
as smart as possible..anything would be an improvement!
24 July 2011, 16:26
something very smart nd slick, and modern :)
24 July 2011, 17:46
I’d go old school … cosy patchwork quilt, pastel paints, fresh flowers and some nice pictures on the walls xx
24 July 2011, 18:09
it would have to be lace curtains, and quite twee – sort of thing you see in the victorian BBC dramas that are popular worldwide, Plus of course it would have to have the obligatory proper teapot and china cups.
24 July 2011, 18:16
Since am in Ireland would probably put a bar in and several barrels of Guiness lol
24 July 2011, 18:39
I would decorate with lots of fresh flowers and decorations depending on the season, such as snowflakes in winter or colourful birds in summer (pretend ones!)
24 July 2011, 20:02
My guest room is also my craft room so I’d leave it clean and tidy and display some homemade things nicely so they’d want to have a go at making! Great giveaway!
