A simple scrapbook page format

simple scrapbook page by shimelle laine @ shimelle.com

It’s September and I’m sharing my Easter scrapbook pages. This is completely fine and normal, right? Just goes to show I really do still love to create with whatever photos and stories inspire me of a particular moment rather than try to get caught up or stick to a calendar.

It’s not really the Easter theme that made me want to share this anyway: it’s just how quickly something can come together with one of those simple page formats we can use time and time again and always get a slightly different look by just having different supplies, different photos, and a different story. This page doesn’t look all that different to something I shared all the way back in 2011:

Except in this case, it’s just the three photos and the journaling card, no extra interactive section and no customising page protectors, so it came together super quickly.

I need to come back and write a proper update on what I’ve learned from my month of doing a bit of Project Life each day, but this was a full page I could finish in about twenty minutes, and that made me very happy indeed.

To keep to that twenty minute time frame, I was really going with the supplies that grabbed my eye first and not stopping to consider a second option. The supplies include Pebbles background paper, Elle’s Studio journaling card, flair badges from American Crafts, Evalicious, and Studio Calico, three different Thickers alphabets from American Crafts, tapes from KI Memories (text), Bella Blvd (dots), and American Crafts (glitter), large scallop border punch from EK Success, plus the True Stories sticker book and the 6×6 paper from the original Shimelle collection, both from AC.

If you have a favourite simple format you return to often, please share! We all have days we long for a finished page in twenty minutes, right?

Thanks for sharing, will definitely be adopting the format to get some photos scrapped when my newest baby arrives in October. 20 minutes should be doable right??

  2. Chelsea Says:

I did a super fast layout yesterday using 2 square photos stacked vertically in the middle of the page, with a row of 3×4 cards across the middle. I had just gotten a brand new 3×4 cut-apart sheet from the Wildflower collection, so it was really easy to use. My embellishment were basically the other tags from that cut-apart, some stamping, and some misting.

I have a super quick layout technique for art journal pages, that I didn’t even know I had! They all look the same though. I start with a photo or the core of the layout in the middle and build from there. Each art journal page does look different even though the layout is the same!

Thanks for sharing that old 2Peas video. I hadn’t seen that split page protector technique. The whole time I was watching you make the page I was thinking “well, that’s fine if you’re happy having one photo and the picture hidden” And then it turned out that you had a nifty solution! (btw I’m always amazed that you can cut straight lines – you must have the internal ruler gene that I’m missing! lol Even with a guide line I would still mess that up.)

Cute page! My go to super quick layout is actually from you :). I make an L with papers and stick my photo/photos in the corner of it. Always works.

  6. Pam Says:

My time saver is to randomly choose one of your design sketches. They save me a ridulous amount of time. No fiddling around trying to reinvent the wheel. I often use both sides of a patterned paper to avoid making yet one more choice. My crafting time is so limited! Your page is adorable!

  7. Gab Says:

Great video Shimelle – I don’t think I’ve seen that one before. I love your LO … I’ll have to go back through my albums and see if there’s anything I do often. I love all the little details on your LOs

Nothing wrong with doing a Easter layout in September :) I love this video and the interaction of the title block is fun :) Will have to give this a try

  9. Maria Says:

Well, doing Easter l/o’s in Sep seems ahead of the game to me! Wish I was anywhere that close to caught up. I liked your new take on the format and, like Sandy & Pam above, my go-to solutions usually involve one of your l/o’s or sketches! Maria

This is one of my favorite “simple” LOs + I still love 4×6 Love

  11. Candace Says:

Such a cute LO. Love how the green seems to bring it all to life

  12. Louise Says:

Fabulous Shimelle, as always, and Wonder boy and his little buddy are so cute. I still use your 4×6 photo love inspiration all the time and love the results. Thanks
