lately, i have definitely been dreaming about picnics!! i’m eagerly awaiting the spring day when i can walk to campus with my daughter in her stroller and meet my husband to have lunch on the quad. we’ll eat chicken salad sandwiches, cheese and crackers, and fruit, and maybe even have cheesecake for dessert (to recreate a sunset picnic we had on our 3rd anniversary). I can’t wait!!

I grew up having picnics for family reunions… so for me that perfect picnic would include the family that I had when I was a kid (all those great aunts and great uncles and grandparents that are gone) and my kiddos and hubby too!

my ideal picnic – the kids run on a sandy beach which we sip bubbly and nibble on chicken and coleslaw rolls and a few delicacies for dessert. we chat and dream and relax on the grass. The kids run and laugh and play and tell us stories of their imaginings. Then I get some perfect photos of the picnic, frame them and scrapbook them and relive the idyllic afternoon over and over.

Hmmm the perfect picnic? Well it would have to include sunshine, a grassy meadow, a large shady tree, a big blanket, a wicker basket lined with gingham, chilled champagne, scrummy food, a good book and a scrapbooking magazine (unless there was a lovely man to entertain me with his wit and charm and I wouldn’t have time to read) and of course lots of photos taken to scrap over the next few days. We’re planning a picnic as part of the celebrations for my Nan’s 90th Birthday. We want to get all her descendants (2 children + spouses, 6 grandchildren + spouses/partners and 9 great-grandchildren) together for a day out in a country park near her home. Love the concept of a perfect picnic. It would be with my darling hubby of course, but the most important thing would be no bugs. I wouldn’t mind if it was out in the canyons, on the beach, in a forest glade. Warm, dry and bug free. I have a real phobia of the bugs of any sort and they have spoilt many a day.

My perfect picnic was when my children were smaller and we had planned a family outing. Due to the weather we ended up having a picnic in our “formal” living room. I put the blanket on the floor and put the spread of food and drinks out. We played indoor games and then sat down and ate. Afterwards we laid on the rug and made pictures out of the dots on the ceiling like they were clouds.

Well this brought up some lovley memories of two summers ago, with my sister from another mother, over from Australia. It was a perfect English summer day in the park with our fruit and sandwich selection from the local shop, simple but perfect. Lots of laughs, can’t wait to see her again and chat the day away like we’re kids :) Hopfully next time its on an Austalian beach :)

Hmm… I think my perfect picnic would be in a park, next to a beach. I remember having this very picnic many years ago when my children were young. It’s gray and raining here in Seattle, so a picnic (with sunny weather to match) sounds heavenly! i had my almost perfect picnic last year: on a summer evening with my boyfriend in Mayence (Germany), where the rivers Rhine and Main meet, at a truly kitschy sunset, red wine and fantastic italian food (white bread, olives, mortadella, salami…)…well: almost perfect? yes, the wasps liked our food as well, a little too much for my opinion. so we left this lovely place, went across the Rhine and ate there: the sun was already gone – and the wasps with it. well, i guess it was still a perfect picnic (at least that’s what the pictures i took tell me – you don’t see the wasps ;) )

I love the idea of a winter picnic with hot soup in a thermos flask, freshly baked bread and cookies. We’d sit on a pebbly beach and watch the sea, all warm from our soup and mittens. I’ve had many perfect picnics growing up. They were either in the backyard of my Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop with all the aunts, uncles, and cousins from my Mom’s side of the family, or they were at Eagle Point Park in Dubuque, Iowa with all of my Dad’s family. We ate basic picnic food with the exception of the german style potato salad in Iowa. I so miss those picnics of my childhood.

My perfect picnic companion would be my Mum and my WI children. Unfortunately my Mum passed away quite young however the children and I would take her favourite foods including Scones and strawberries, cake and small sandwiches all laid out on my Cath Kidston crockery and I know she would be watching down whilst we toasted her life with some fizz!

Beautiful grassy not very crowded park with trees for shade and a lovely playground for the kids, a little stream to play in too. My companions….you know I think I would take most of my family including my kids cousins so they can all play together. We’d also take a rounders set for a massive game of rounders after we’ve eaten and paddled in the stream :)

Well I just got back from Antarctica and I’m really missing it. So my perfect picnic…..a clear summers day around 20km from the Pole, back at our fabulous camp but this time with Pink bubbles (that didnt freeze) and BBQ’d chicken (that stayed hot) fresh salad and bread rolls and tiramisu for dessert! ….not to much to ask ???? ;o)

I miss going on picnics with my mom and daughter when the fireworks are on at English bay (in Vancouver). We’d get deli stuff, fruit and bread from Granville market and walk over to the beach. Mom would have a bottle of wine in her pack and pop for daughter. Then we’d just snack and sip and wait with everyone else :)

A perfect sunshiny day… spotted with beautiful bright white fluffy clouds. We would lay our oversized blanket on the hillside overlooking the lake with the ducks quacking and geese flying by. My honey would have packed a lunch of some artisan bread with good olive oil and fresh parmesan cheese and cracked pepper to dip the bread in. Wonderful meats, an assortment of cheeses and some fruit. A bottle of moscato wine and some Michael Buble on the iPod. Great conversation and a walk around the lake at sunset. We would end the picnic back at the blanket and have some Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. This kit would scrapbook the date wonderfully!

My perfect picnic would be just by the ocean on a summer evening with my beau. Some cheese and wine, a sunset, a blanket to share. Next to us, our cameras on tripods, ready to shoot that sunset! Photography is a hobby we share, and that makes me very happy.

My perfect pinic would have to be with my ALL family – although this doesn’t sound special to most, it would be for me as I, my husband and children are in the UK and my Mum, Dad, brother and his family all live in New Zealand! Although it sounds odd the perfect ‘location’ would be in anywhere whilst it was snowing as the NZ children have never seen it snow. I would make it as traditional as possible with woollen picnic rug, old fashion basket and an old flask just for them to experience something quaintly British – obviously I would also have to hire an old MG too :)

My perfect picnic… With my darling hubby and our gorgeous son, any time of year, we don’t really care, its easier if its not raining but we have been known to picnic under umbrellas before! Mostly we love to be in the woods together, take our wellies and race sticks in the stream. My for year old thinks its the most fun thing in the world! For me its just lovely to be able to spend a few precious hours together as a family, my hubby does daddy in the morning till school starts and I do mummy in the evening but our only “family” time is at weekends. I grew up with a big family picnic once a year at Vancouver’s Stanley Park.
It is still my favourite place for a picnic. There are a zillion places within the park to chose for your picnic setting.
My favourite area is on a knoll overlooking the cricket players on one side and the sea on the other. You can stay at the picnic area and visit, walk along the seawall, watch the cricket and just relax in the crisp sea air.
A picnic at Stanley Park has always involved family for me…I have always taken our company from England (family) there for a picnic.
It is such a special setting that I like to make the picnic a little special too. This is the perfect place to try some of the great pinterest foody ideas. Next picnic I would bring boccacini skewers, fresh fruit skewers, buns stuffed with assorted grilled veggies and turkey, and flasks of coffee and tea.
