Scrapbooking tutorial :: Hot Pink Hoopla

hot pink hoopla scrapbook page with cosmo cricket upcycle
scrapbook page with cosmo cricket upcycle
Oooh, I do love a little hot pink. It can brighten up the greyest of days, and once someone said something that really stuck with me: ‘I think the reason I always think you look younger is because you wear hot pink’. Ladies, someone only has to say that to you once to make you a believer, right? Hot pink it is. Also, I just really like the word ‘hoopla’ because it is fun to say and I will find any reason to throw it into a conversation. Sometimes that’s the only reason you need.

Today’s bit of hoopla in hot pink includes the chance to win a prize pack of Cosmo Cricket scrapbooking supplies! And I tried to meet a challenge from SJ, who suggested I try to scrap in a 7×7 square on the 12×12 page. Find out how well I stuck to that rule! Watch the video to see this page come together.

To enter the challenge, you need to create a project somehow inspired by this scrapbook page. It can be very similar or quite different, as you could use the entire layout as inspiration or you could pick just one thing – a hot pink background, using the Upcycle collection, starting with a 7×7 square, misting the background, scrapping that one photo that doesn’t go with anything else… or anything else that caught your attention!

Create your page and upload it to your blog or a scrapbook page gallery like Two Peas or UKScrappers. Then leave a link to that page (not your main blog address) in the box below. One entry will be chosen to win a prize pack of Cosmo Cricket scrapbooking supplies! (Please follow Cosmo on Facebook or Twitter to help say thanks!) Entries close this Sunday (21st August 2011) at midnight UK time.

  2. marianne Says:

I am a hot pink lover however it is not always an easy color to scrapbook with so for me, this one is a “challenge!”

  3. AllisonLP Says:

  4. Lizzie Says:

Aww lovely and fun, Shimelle! I love the whole layout and the colour combination is great.
I have made one page with a hot pink background – it was one of the most fun things! It was to celebrate the brilliant Sock Creatures made by my students at my 1st ever Sock Creature workshop in March. It’s on my studio wall and I love it!
I need to find time to have a go at this challenge – I love Cosmo stash and this is just a fab challenge…

  5. nitasha Says:

  6. Peggy Says:

All the girly-girls I know love hot pink, whether they’re 5 years old, or 50. It’s not my colour, but it’s definitely Stacy’s.

  7. rockchickhelen Says:

    Oooh, I’m second.

  8. Lianne Says:

That’s so true! Whenever I wear pink I get IDed! Even though I’m 27, wrinkled, married, pregnant and have an 18month old clung to me. I may have to shelve it for a while until it’s no longer embarrassing :/

  9. Georgia Says:

I LOVED this challenge. I, also, had a lone picture that I wanted to do something with, but didn’t know what. Had to dig through my other photos, though for a tiny picture of my niece. Thanks Shimelle for inspiring me!

  10. Rachel Houltram Says:

I love me a bit of hot pink, and my little Cinderella was the perfect choice as she had such a hot pink dress to match!

  11. Cynthia Says:

Thanks for another challenging challenge!! =D

  12. AllisonLP Says:

OK! Just posted my layout. I usually don’t scrapbook during the week, because I thought I’d just be too tired, but becuase what this crop has taught me, I knew I’d get this done. This crop taught me that I dont’ have to worry so much about the placement of each and every element, because once you have a general direction, it will all fall into place. This weekend has taught me to be a faster scrapper. This was an invaluable experience for me. THANK YOU, SHIMELLE!!!

  13. Chipper Says:

I am not a fan of pink, but hot pink is an entirely different matter! I scrapped this challenge last night along with the half page challenge and they BOTH ended up being pink! LOL

In the fierce competition of society, Women also have great working pressure. Sometimes, are you hesitant how to overindulge yourselves? I suggest that you can buy a brand handbag. Famous brand Handbags can show you’re noble and also very practical. Especially ,in the summer. If you want to have a travel, you need to have a famous brand handbag. Recently, I found a very good website, www.2011brandhandbags.net .There are a lot of discount brand Handbags. You can buy discount handbags.net and brand handbags fall 2011 here. You can enjoy the bag with the high quality and lowest price.

I am totally inspired and loved watching this layout come together. I really loved seeing how you took sticker sheets and made them your own by cutting, matting, etc. And the laying of stickers and embellishments – WOW! I am feeling totally inspired and challenged by this. Don’t know if I’ll be able to post a layout in time for the drawing, but that’s OK.

  19. ConnieC Says:

I know I’ve said this before, but I haven’t scrapped this much in a long time. I hope I can keep this up.

Loved watching the video clip which inspired my boys layout with not a stitch of pink!!

  21. Donna L Says:

I have a 2 page layout for this challenge. I took the bright colors, I stamped the background with white ink instead of misting, and tried my hand at the clustering of embellies! This was fun! I am so loving these challenges and videos, Shimelle. Keep them coming! Thanks.

So, I finally got there… My Linky is up there and I made my page. It’s definitely an “inspired by” page, rather than a copy or imitation, but I so enjoyed making it and have explained the “inspiration” in my blog post.
Thanks for another fun challenge, Shimelle!

  43. Stephanie Russell Says:

I finally uploaded my page. I have been away from scrapping for a long time. Your sketches and the other videos were very inspiring. I used spray mist for the first time. It was fun to get at it again. Thanks for the inspiration.

  54. joanna schlos Says:

This is such a beautiful layout. Great way to teach me how to use the “one” picture…i love the way you layer…i wish i had the vision. watching you helps to give me ideas and i love that you tells us “why” you are doing something for example “add the yellow circle to balance the top and the bottom corners…angle the top embellishment parallel to the bottom….” it gives me a sense for what you are seeing and thinking! Shimelle ur awesome!
