When I Grow Up...

Ever thought back to what you said you would be when you grew up? Ever think it’s funny that you grew up to be something entirely different? Or exactly the same?

When I Grow Up is an online workshop designed to take you through an exploration of how your perspective has changed: is grown up life really what you thought it would be when you were a child? How have your dreams and priorities changed? How have you gained independence and made choices that give you a life you can now celebrate?

We’ll make a journal in a format of your choice—you’ll see the work of a new team of guest artists who have worked in formats varying from scrapbooks to written journals to altered board books to collage projects. Some are big. Some are small. All are personal. You’ll be telling your story like no one else can tell it.

Beginning on the 2nd of April, you’ll receive 10 prompts to take you through the process. They will be available for you to download in your choice of plain text or illustrated PDF, and offer advice for figuring out how to put your thoughts and images into words that tell a story. The illustrated files will take you through the work of several artists who have taken the challenge and offer you their expertise. They come from different places and different times in their lives, each offering her own unique perspective on how her ideas of growing up have changed. You’ll also be able to listen to an audio message that starts the process and have the option of discussing the project with other participants by email. If you would like to share your work, you’ll have posting access at WrittenDown, a group blog to follow the creations of all the participants.

There will be sneak peeks throughout this week and next, so please stop by for a look and feel free to ask any questions. I hope you’ll join us and tell your story!

PLEASE NOTE:
You can still sign up and receive all the class materials. But please know I will not have reliable internet access between the 6th and 14th of April. If you sign up for this class in that time frame, I will be sure to send you all files on the 15th. You will still be able to complete the class without any problems. Thank you for understanding!

{book by Theresly}

So happy to see books being made. I just had to share Theresly’s book with you—she added calendar pages to the bottom of the book. Bev made a calendar too as a gift for Mothering Sunday.

Sarah has been busy making two books this weekend AND knitting socks. And Kate posted her book here. And Tracie made a fab book too…hurrah, hurrah.

Just a little reminder: if you make a reasons I’m a lucky girl book, layout or other project and post a link to it on this post, your name will go in the hat for two prize packs to be sent to you so you can make more stuff. Gotta love that Fiskateer motto—Practise Random Acts of Crafting. And gotta love British spelling too.

PS: What if I said you could sign up for the next class ...tomorrow?

Lucky stars.

Because I know you want to make MORE little books, here’s a little inside scoop: I’m the weekend guest of The Fiskateers. Check out their site tomorrow and make a little book. There just might be things to win!

ETA: Here’s a direct link to the project!

Because decorative edged scissors are sexy

No really. This never ceases to make me laugh that we all loved them. Then we hated them. And now we love them again…just not as many of them as the first time. Hurrah for pretty things.

But if you are ready to laugh, you can now tune into FiskarsTV and learn how to make this book. And you can win stuff! And you can struggle to hear me whisper! And you can hear me say random British things like ‘higgedly-piggedly’! And you can admire the manicure I got just for the show! And if you look closely you can see how I totally messed up that manicure! And various other things that cause me to use excessive conjunctions.

(Because they are conjunctions. And, but and or. Conjunctions. As in Conjunction Junction, What’s that Function? Despite the fact that the new teacher language that I speak calls them connectives. Conjunctions. There we go. I feel better now, but it will annoy me in class tomorrow. Ha.)

But most of all, you can turn five sheets of cardstock, 15 photographs and a pair of decorative scissors into a book. And that is always a good thing.

How to disappear completely.

this is order. things in the right place. measured. just enough of this and just enough of that to make it all work.

unfortunately, my life is just missing this a little bit right now. i really can’t talk about it here, but please know i am fine. we are fine. there will be a class soon. and an official wedding date.

but sometimes i have to admit to myself that i can’t do everything. as much as i really, really want to.

i will return to daily (or at least near daily!) blogging very soon. please send good vibes for adding a few extra hours to each day in the mean time.

or at least email me a good joke, okay?

thank you.

Paper Grazing

So in need of more hours in the day this week. But makin’ it work. We’ll get there.

I am belated in my massive thank you to all involved last weekend at the PaperArts bash. Thanks Fiona, Christine, Helen, and everyone at the shop for your super organisational skills, Jools for being fab to teach alongside (and for taking that Friday morning slot!) and everyone in attendance for a) your mad cropping skillz, b) your superb consumption of cupcakes and c) your crazy happy generosity in raising so much for Cancer Research. Thank you so much for your support with that! Such good times in the quiet countryside. I am still loving that you golf and graze cattle in the same place. That is just fabulous. We have cows in Kansas but…not on the golf course, to my knowledge.

This Saturday, I’ll be at the ExCel Centre with Banana Frog—if you’re going to be there, please stop to say hello and get some glittery, stamped goodness! Info is over there—-> at the side.

And hopefully sometime before then I’m going to catch up on some sleep. Just don’t ask me when. I think I might stick that Scenic Route Keep on Truckin’ sticker to my forehead.

It won't be said that I underuse parentheticals.

Class anticipation aside, it’s like megaweek here. Like megaYAY week. Megabusy and megagood. (And don’t worry, the class stuff is coming along just fine and there will be more concrete info super soon. MegaYAY, see?!)

The megaYAY also involves: *knitting with jen yesterday. i’m cabling which is like all ooohwowuh but she is the sane one who totally helps when i screw up. also, i learned i really should talk and cable at the same time. (there was much discussion of how ysolda can read and knit and not make mistakes. she’s a goddess. that’s why.)

*the stuff above (is the card generator not the fabbest thing ever?)

*like a million (okay. five.) batches of cupcakes to make tomorrow for various things. including (ah! a sublist!) the boy’s office birthday party, the long winters and the paper arts birthday bash this weekend.

*coffee with the daughters bridesmaids tomorrow. two of the three bridesmaids. (no. we still don’t have a venue. which means we still don’t have a date. seriously, i know.)

*did i mention the long winters? on their own. no keane or anything else involved after them. that’s tomorrow night. yay.

*getting up early friday to drive to a prettier part of the country. because i did mention the paper arts birthday bash, right? yay.

and flip, like a bunch of other stuff too but now i should make a start on that list. yay, yay and megayay.
