Photos from a frozen Friday

So apparently it is quite cold here. So cold that the birds don’t quite know what to do, other than stay out of the fountain. Many people were not so intelligent, and Trafalgar Square was overrun with people shouting about their cold feet, for not one but multiple people thought it would be a good idea to stand on that ice for a photo opportunity.

That ice is, of course, merely sitting on top of a very cold pool of water.

Brains: apparently some of them malfunction in cold weather.

In other notes: today’s random celebrity sighting in Covent Garden was an Osmond brother, I was responsible for a panda hat appearing in the background of a London television report on the state of our icy roads, and the total lack of non-iced pavement in my neighbourhood seems to be a wonderful bonding experience wherein everyone is suddenly chatting as we all struggle up or down the hill into the village, mostly stating our dismay that no one has bothered to sort this out but also in an attempt to deflect from the lack of grace we have suffered in our performance of the dying swan from Swan Lake, performed on iced-over concrete whilst wearing casual footwear.

Wishing we had a fireplace this week! Am having to settle for warming cardigans on the radiator, which isn’t quite the ambiance.

Stay warm!

Brrr! You’re right about brains freezing in this weather… took me several days to thaw mine out this week!
We dont have a fireplace, but got one of those electric “real log burners”. It’s quite comforting on a v. cold day. More than “cardi on the radiator”. Didn’t cost a huge amount…
Mind how you go on those icy pavements – you don’t want to be scrapping about your visit to A&E!

Wow I guess it is cold every where this year. Our normal hi her in North Carolina if 56 degrees, we have been barely reaching 20 for the past 2 weeks

Yes, they even talked about how cold it was in England on the radio this morning. It’s bitterly cold here in Texas as well, we don’t do bitterly cold very well.

Your photos are gorgeous and make me want to go back to London…not right now, of course. I’m not crazy! I’m applying for a Chaucer institute there this summer, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

But Australia is apparently ‘suffering’ a heatwave. How we do all complain!

I had a similar conversation with my children whilst walking round the frozen lake near our house!
Yes, it may look frozen, yes when you throw things on it they don’t seem to break the ice, but no you may NOT stand on it as it not frozen enough and if you do stand on it it will break and you will DIE!!!!
    Hopefully scared them enough?

Beautiful photos…we do seem to have a lot more ‘white’ on the South coast at the moment.

I’m taking huge comfort in checking the windchill map of the US… at one point it was 72 degrees (F) warmer here than ND.

Brrrr but they are pretty pictures aren’t they?

Had to send OH out to brave the rail replacement bus to Tesco today as I’ve had to resort to making a strange stew made up of whatever was left in the cupboard and freezer. Smells nice – we’ll see what it tastes like. Plus I wanted that new crochet mag which I’ve had no luck in getting thus far… and neither did he today.

Be careful if you are venturing out everybody.

I took some almost identical pictures on Saturday, amazingly didn’t see anyone trying to stand on the ice but we did notice a lot of signs saying ‘not for public use’ in and around the fountain.
