Pronounciation of Shimelle???
Pronounciation of Shimelle???
Just how exactly do you pronounce your first name. I've tried every way I can think of and none sit nicely on the tougue.
It's an awkward conversation when I am trying to discuss or recommend your work or classes and I can't pronounce your name with any confidence.
Thanks
Judi

Interesting question lol - I always assumed it was like 'Michelle' but with the 'm' and 'sh' sounds swapped over?! Apologies if I've been getting it wrong all this time!!

Re: Pronounciation of Shimelle???
aww, too funny! I hear it mispronounced all the time.
Mel is right - it is like Michelle but flipped around. Or the way that seems to get banded about...well, 'Shi' sounds like three letters of a four letter word! And 'melle' is like 'mel', rhymes with 'shell', etc.
It is definitely not an eeeel sound. It's not like the beginning of Laverne and Shirley (schlemiel schlimazel hasenpfeffer incorporated!) even though I have come to laugh about that now.

And how often do you have it spelt wrongly when you've given your name verbally, Shimelle?! The spellings I've seen of Melanie (my full name) when really, it isn't that difficult.... I can forgive Meloney (just!) but how did one particular firm get Malloury??!!

Goodness Mel - you would think Melanie would be one they had at least heard before?!
To be honest, I automatically spell it to anyone who is writing something down. At the very least, most people add an extra m in the middle - but the obtuse ones can be so entirely random!

Re: Pronounciation of Shimelle???
I think I've got it now!!!
it seems disrespectful not to know or bother to find out how to pronounce someone's name.
and I do think it looks a bit foolish trying to recommend one of my favorite instructors and not being able to pronounce her name, lacks the ring of truth I think.
Thanks
Judi
