Size of attachment

I have put my first page on 1st September thread. However the photo is enromous. HOw do i make it so people can see it easily? 
What program do you use on your computer to save your picture files? Somewhere there should be a place to resize the image or export it at a size that you define.
For message boards, I would suggest keeping your pictures to a maximum of 500pixels across.
Let me know what program you use and I'm sure we can find out where the resize feature is for you.
